Whether you're familiar with or new to counselling, meeting someone for the first time can be nerve wracking. This is totally normal, and I'd love to help you feel as comfortable as possible before your first visit. Here's information about what to expect, where to go when you arrive, and more!

Before Your Session You'll be emailed a brief Intake and Consent form to review and complete before your first appointment if possible. The form is kept confidential and stored on a secure online booking system, Jane. If you have any questions or concerns, please jot them down so we can address them together :)
Getting to the Office
My office is located at 1540 Springhill Drive in the Springhill Professional Centre building inside of Sacral Flow Chiropractic and Spa (Unit 1 - second door to the left once inside the lobby) in the Sahali neighbourhood of Kamloops, BC. Look for the door that says Sacral Flow and has a blue curtain behind it (my signage is coming soon!).
Parking & Bus
If you're driving to your appointment or being dropped off, there's lots of free on-site parking in front of the building. If you're taking the bus, it's on route 9: Gleneagles and the bus stops right by the building.
Office Hours & Access During Main Hours The office door is open from 9:30 to 12:30 p.m. Monday to Thursday when chiropractic services are provided. If you have a counselling appointment during this time, please come on in. The lovely receptionist Mallory will greet you, or you're welcome to head straight to the waiting room (the room with the word 'Welcome' above the door; see below for more details). After Hours
If you have an appointment Fridays or after 12:30 p.m., the office will be locked and I'll email you a unique door code to let yourself into the space. Please check your junk folder if you haven't received this or send me a quick text. Late Evening
If you're attending a late evening session, additional details will be emailed to you about the gate and building doors as they might be locked. You're also welcome to call or text me anytime for support if needed at 250-572-5460.
Waiting Area
If you arrive early, come on in and relax in the cozy waiting room (the room with the word "Welcome" above it on your right), and help yourself to tea, water, hot chocolate or a Bubly in the mini fridge under the record player. I will come to greet you when it's time for your session.
Washrooms
Washrooms are available in the lobby and no key is required. I apologize in advance that the building provides gendered washrooms only. Please use the restroom that feels right for you, and let me know if there's anything I can do to help you feel more comfortable or at ease. You're also always welcome to pause your session if you need to use the restroom.
Counselling Space & Sensory Comforts
Lighting My office is cozily tucked in the back corner with warm lamp lighting. The space also has lots of natural window light with nature in view, and the option to use blackout curtains if you prefer a more dimly lit space.
Seating
A size-inclusive couch is provided for you to sit, lay or put your feet up on (any position that's best for your body), or you're welcome to stand, trade me spots or sit in a firmer desk chair for more support.
Comfort/Sensory Items
I have fidgets, colouring materials, blankets/weighted blankets, music, lighting options, pillows, a moveable side table, tissues, fan, and more, that are readily available and easy to use. If there's anything else that would help you feel more comfortable, please let me know and I'll do my very best to accommodate you.
Sound
The space is quiet with the faint sound of passing cars in the background, and from time to time, you may hear a brief dog bark as there is a local groomer nearby. The room is tucked in a corner away from the main lobby, so what you share will not be overheard. The room has non-ticking clocks but if there are any noises or items in the space that are a distraction or concern for you, please let me know so we can make adjustments as best as possible.
What We'll Talk About This looks different for everyone and depends on what feels best for you. I'll review the consent form, address any questions you might have, and ask you about what brought you to counselling and what you're hoping to work on (and it's completely okay and normal if you don't know yet). Then from there, we'll navigate what comes next together. You don't need to show up with anything prepared, nor do you need to answer the questions I ask you or share more than you're comfortable with or ready to.
Wondering about something I didn't cover? Email me anytime at hello@hollowandhill.ca. I look forward to connecting with you soon!

Warmly,
Sam
